MG Motor says its Marvel R flagship full-electric SUV will be priced between 40,000 euros ($47,720) and 50,000 euros when it arrives in European dealerships this autumn.
The price signals a move by MG to leave the budget end of the market it currently occupies. It pitches the compact model against battery-powered rivals from established mainstream brands such as the Volkswagen ID4 and Skoda Enyaq.
The Marvel R will come with a 70-kilowatt-hour battery pack delivering a maximum 402-km (250-mile) range in its entry, twin-motor rear-wheel-drive set-up.
A higher spec all-wheel-drive model adds a third electric motor to increase power from 177 hp to 284 hp and reduces the 0-100 kph (62 mph) acceleration time to 4.9 seconds, compared to 7.9 seconds in the rear-wheel-drive model. The extra power and weight reduces the range of the all-wheel-drive model to 370 km.
The SUV's dashboard is dominated by 19.4-inch 'floating' touchscreen positioned in portrait view like the unit found in the Tesla Model S and Ford Mustang Mach E models. A second screen is positioned in front of the driver.
The infotainment system can be updated over-the-air and features a range of online services including Amazon Prime music. A separate app can remotely connect to the car.
MG bundles the car's standard active safety features with MG Pilot and includes features soon to be become mandatory within the European Union that include emergency lane keeping and drowsiness detection.
A standard 11-kW three-phase charger allows rapid charging at public chargers with the possibility of reaching an 80 percent charge from a near empty battery in about 40 minutes, according to MG.
A standard internal heat pump also improves efficiency levels at low temperatures.
The car's V2L system (vehicle-to-load) allows owners to use the car's battery to charge external devices, for example, an electric scooter or air pump.
