FRANKFURT -- Markus Flasch, currently head of BMW Group's high-performance M unit, will move to the automaker's vehicle development division where he will take charge of the Rolls-Royce and high-end BMW product line, including the brand's midsize range, the automaker said in a statement.
The Austrian national will succeed Franciscus van Meel in the role on November 1. Van Meel will return to the M division as CEO, a position he left in 2018, when Flasch succeeded him.
As head of the group's upmarket product line, van Meel was instrumental in developing full-electric vehicles, including the iX SUV.
Van Meel will rejoin the performance unit as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022, that will be marked by the presentation of several new models.
