Ford of Europe has appointed Elvira Schachermeier, a longtime Visa executive, as vice president, communications and public affairs.
Schachermeier takes over from Susan Krusel, who will retire in October after 20 years at Ford, the automaker said.
The German-born Schachermeier worked at Visa for 16 years, rising to the post of chief communications officer for the Europe region.
At Ford she will report to Stuart Rowley, president of Ford of Europe, and Mark Truby, chief communications officer at Ford Motor.
"Elvira is a highly respected communications leader with a wealth of global experience," Truby said in a statement.
Truby also thanked Krusel for her work at Ford, "particularly her recent role in helping to lead our transformation in Europe."
Schachermeier, a graduate of San Francisco State University in California, joined Visa in 2005 and held a variety of communications leadership roles, both in the United States and in Europe. She will join Ford on Dec. 1.
