PARIS -- Renault Group has named Josep Maria Recasens, a longtime executive at Volkswagen’s Spanish brand Seat, as senior vice president, head of strategy and business development.
Recasens, most recently chief strategy officer and general secretary at Seat, started on Friday in his new post. He replaces Laurent Rossi, who was appointed head of Renault’s sports-car brand Alpine earlier this year, and will report to Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, former CEO of Seat.
He will be a member of Renault’s corporate management committee. At Renault, he will focus in particular on mobility services.
De Meo, as part of his Renaulution turnaround plan for the money-losing automaker, has established a separate mobility services business unit called Mobilize.
Recasens, an engineering graduate of the University of Girona in Spain, started his automotive career in 2002 at Seat. He held positions in R&D, product planning and international projects, including the Seat Ateca compact SUV from 2012 to 2016.
He was appointed chief strategy officer in 2017, with the priority of accelerating Seat’s digital transformation. In 2020 he added the position of head of public affairs at Seat.
