Renault names Thierry Charvet head of industrial operations

PARIS -- Renault has promoted head of quality Thierry Charvet to executive vice president Group Industry, succeeding Jose Vicente de los Mozos, who is returning to his native Spain after 43 years at the automaker to “continue his personal projects,” Renault said.

Charvet will start in his new position on Jan. 15, 2023. He will be a member of the group’s board of management. 

In addition to his position as head of industrial operations, de los Mozos was also head of Renault on the Iberian Peninsula. He will be succeeded in that post by Josep Maria Recasens, currently senior vice president, strategy and business development at Renault Group.

Renault CEO Luca de Meo offered praise for De los Mozos, noting that he set an example for young people after starting as an apprentice at Renault at age 17 and becoming a top executive.

“Under his leadership, our industrial system has become a true global reference, always at the forefront of the sector,” de Meo said in a release. 

Among the projects initiated under de los Mozos are Renault’s ReFactory in Flins, France, which is a center for recycling and other “circular economy” activities, and the ElectriCity group of plants in northern France, which will build electric vehicles, batteries and components. 

De los Mozos was named an Automotive News Europe Eurostar in 2022.

Charvet, a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique in France, joined Renault in 1993 as an engineer. He then held management positions at the Flins factory, in product management and in engineering before being named director of the Flins factory in 2011. He was named director of industrial performance at the Renault-Nissan Alliance in 2014, and in 2017 became director of industrial strategy and engineering. He was named to his current position as head of quality for Renault Group in November 2021.

De los Mozos, 60, joined Renault as an apprentice in 1978, then became an engineer at the Valladolid, Spain, factory. He held positions in engineering in France and at Spanish factories until 2003, when he was named director of Nissan Motor Iberia. He added other management responsibilities in the region and in 2012 was named managing director of Renault Spain, a position he held until now. De los Mozos was then named to board-level leadership positions in manufacturing and logistics, and health and safety at Renault and the alliance. He was named to his current position on Jan. 1, 2021.  

Recasens joined Renault in 2021 as director of strategy and business development, after working at Volkswagen’s Spanish brand Seat since 2002, including under de Meo, who was brand chief before joining Renault in 2020.
