DETROIT - Computer programmers in the USA may be hit with lawsuits if their programs are subject to the millennium bug.
Robert Tipton, a consultant for Chicago-based Whittman-Hart Inc, said the real business cost of problems 'isn't remediating the software. It's the liability around it.'
He spoke to automakers and suppliers at the Automotive Industry Action Group's Auto-Tech conference.
'Every major law firm in America has a thriving year 2000 practice,' Tipton warned, noting that he had been contacted by one such firm building a staff of expert witnesses. 'They're going to chase you instead of ambulances.'
