Sales of Lada, Russia's top-selling brand, fell 51 percent last month, while No. 2 Kia was down 16 percent. Third-place Hyundai fell 26 percent and No. 4 Toyota's volume rose by 18 percent. Volkswagen, the No. 5 brand by sales, dropped 27 percent.
Monthly winners included Lexus, with sales up 55 percent; Peugeot which gained 36 percent; and Mazda with a 19 percent increase.
The AEB data does not include sales of BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars after the companies decided to report figures quarterly.
Through September, Russian sales rose 15 percent to 1.26 million, compared with the same period last year when the country was in the grip of COVID-19 lockdowns.
