BEIJING -- PSA/Peugeot-Citroen launched sales of its second China-built Citroen DS model, the DS 6WR crossover, late last month.
The vehicle, built at Changan PSA Automobiles' plant in Shenzhen, has a starting price of 193,900 yuan (25,069 euros). It will not be available outside China.
The car, which debuted in production form at the Beijing auto show earlier this year, is 4,553mm long, 1,858mm wide and 1,588mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,732mm, according to the automaker. It is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The DS6 won't be sold in Europe because it lacks a diesel engine, banned in China but necessary in Europe, sources have said. The crossover also needs adaptations to comply with the EU’s tougher crash and pedestrian impact standards.
Second China-only model
Changan PSA is a 50-50 joint venture between PSA and Changan Automobile Co., a major state-owned Chinese automaker.
The partnership, which is headquartered in the south China city of Shenzhen, is dedicated to the production of Citroen DS models. It launched sales of its first Citroen DS model, the DS5 LS compact sedan, in September 2013. In China, the DS line is a standalone upscale brand with its own dealership network.
PSA also has a joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp. in the country, which makes a wide range of Peugeot and Citroen models in the central China city of Wuhan.
