Marek Djordjevic, the man who designed the Rolls-Royce Phantom, has resigned from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to start his own design firm.
Djordjevic, 36, was part of the team that designed the first Rolls-Royce -- code-named RR01 -- under BMW ownership. BMW AG acquired Rolls-Royce on Jan. 1, 2003.
In addition to being head of exterior design at Rolls-Royce, Djordjevic was creative director for BMW's DesignworksUSA's studio in California.
Djordjevic said in a statement that his new firm will be in Los Angeles and will focus on premium land, air and sea vehicles and accessories.
Besides the Phantom, Djordjevic designed the Rolls-Royce 100EX convertible concept shown at last year's Geneva auto show. Rolls-Royce will produce a four-seat convertible based on the EX. It will go on sale in 2007.
