TOKYO — Mitsubishi plans to build a product strategy around electrification and will offer a glimpse next month at the Tokyo auto show when it unveils a small plug-in hybrid SUV concept.
Mitsubishi is not yet revealing details about the vehicle, but last week promised that it will embody "an electric SUV that delivers unparalleled driving pleasure and confidence over all terrain in light and wind."
Mitsubishi called the vehicle a downsized, lightweight plug-in hybrid with an electrified four-wheel-drive powertrain.
A curious teaser image of the vehicle released by the company shows what looks like a space-age rear deck and a cabin that is divided down the middle. The rear pillars feature strange fanlike apertures.
Mitsubishi did not offer a name for the concept. But the automaker said the show car envisions a product that is as effortlessly driven around town for shopping as it is off-road for outdoor activities.
