What was your first automotive job and why were you interested in the industry?
I grew up in a home that adored Formula One and motorsport. From an early age I knew I wanted to be a part of this. My first job was as UK marketing coordinator for Bentley. Not only was I fortunate to start my automotive career with such a wonderful brand, but I also had the pleasure of being surrounded by customers on a regular basis. This taught me about the importance of listening, understanding where the real value is and how experiences during the purchasing and ownership journey are critical to loyalty.
Your greatest achievement?
Probably the most exciting was developing and leading the business model for Bentley’s re-launch of its Mulliner division, which provides customers with bespoke, personalized options for their cars ranging from simple color changes to the creation of truly unique one-off models. This achievement created the path to growth for the brand and delivered an incredibly exciting customer offer.

What was your biggest failure and what did it teach you?
During my early days as a leader, it was difficult for me to find the right work-life balance. I’ve always been extremely passionate about my role and my team members. I always worked to make sure everyone was able to succeed. However, I didn’t always have a realistic balance. Once someone gave me the advice to be more aware of the “shadow you cast as a leader.” I was slow to recognize the impact I was having on my wider team and their balance.
What did you learn?
I learned that if I wanted to be the kind of leader and role model who was known for achieving through a high-performing, motivated and happy team, then I needed to include everyone. Team members have to feel like they belong. They need clarity on the vision and to understand their role within it. As a leader it’s my responsibility to make sure every person on the team feels included and has the ability to work in a way that enables them to achieve their best. Equity is crucial.
What is your current challenge at work?
My current role within the performance and transformation space means I face challenges every day. The semiconductor crisis was one of the most problematic situations experienced at work. I’m a pivotal part of our crisis team and have to think end-to-end. I have to work intensely to help find creative solutions to keep our manufacturing plants going and maintain the delivery of cars to our customers. However, with challenges come opportunities and with opportunities comes learning. I try to find something positive in every challenge.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
There are actually three that stick with me. 1) Every person on the team matters. 2) Be curious and never stop learning. 3) Plan well, deliver well and reflect well.

What advice would you give to a person considering a career in the auto industry?
Observe, listen, connect and be courageous. It’s an industry that is changing exponentially. People, connections and culture are everything. Whichever industry you chose, make sure the culture doesn’t challenge your core values. The culture needs to support you, encourage your growth and, most importantly, give you space and time to learn. I was once told you can’t be brave without fear. You won’t always have all the answers. However, you can learn how to find solutions. Never be afraid of making mistakes. It’s actually the greatest form of learning.

I want to continue to work in an environment that keeps me curious and challenged. I want to support people in building on their talent, motivate them and help others achieve their ambitions.
