WILHELM KARMANN GmbH has won a contract to build the future Audi cabriolet.
Last year Karmann took over production of the current Audi 80 Cabriolet and built 5,700 units. Karmann has been developing the new model for more than a year and a half, but the project only received approval from Audi in late February. The car is expected to be launched in three years.
Audi has been actively outsourcing development work on some of its smaller volume models. A large part of the development of the TT Coupe and Roadster was done by Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH in Austria, part of Magna International.
Audi has said that the A6-based all-terrain vehicle will also largely be developed by Steyr.
