Lithium ion batteries such as this will go into upper-trim Prius models; the base model will get nickel-metal hydride batteries.

SUNTO-GUN, Japan -- Toyota Motor Corp. is rolling out its next-generation Prius hybrid with a choice of newer-generation lithium ion or more traditional nickel-metal hydride batteries.
