The automaker's new boss has established a "software defined vehicle hub" that will work on new vehicle concepts for Audi as well as sister brands within the Volkswagen Group.
Doellner has appointed vehicle platform specialist Lorenz Fuehrlinger as the top-ranking Audi executive at the SDV unit, which is expected to be based near Munich, sources told Automotive News Europe sister publication Automobilwoche.
Fuehrlinger was most recently responsible for VW Group's upcoming SSP underpinnings that Audi will use on its full-electric cars. Prior to that he worked on the MQB architecture that is widely used on VW Group combustion-engine models.
Doellner referenced the software hub when annoucing a management restructuring plan to employees at the end of January, according to Automobilwoche sources.
Audi has confirmed the changes.
In addition to shuffling executives Doellner has created a new product strategy division that will be led by Christiane Zorn, who will be in charge of model and module management.
Doellner also plans to combine operational and strategic corporate management under the leadership of Daniel Kauer, who will join Audi on April 1 from his role at head of strategic planning at VW brand. Kauer worked for Audi from 2018-20.
The changes come as the automaker readies a sweeping production overhaul that could see Q8 E-tron output move to Mexico and China from Belgium.
In January, Audi named Johannes Roscheck as the new head of its China business. He will lead the ramp-up of production at Audi's new joint plant with China's FAW in Changchun. The factory will start making Chinese versions of the Q6 E-tron and A6 E-tron later this year.
