The Renault Clio was Europe's top-seller in November despite a 13 percent volume decline during the month.

MG, Tesla, Polestar, Bentley, Lada and Hyundai had triple- or double-digit sales percentage increases in November while six other brands including Kia, Dacia, Mini, Rolls-Royce and Maserati had volume gains in an overall European market that was down by 17 percent.

Among the 12 brands that beat the market were Subaru, Porsche, Lamborghini, Citroen, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volvo, according to figures from market researcher JATO Dynamics.

The semiconductor shortage was the main reason for the region's sales decline.

MG was up because of strong sales of the MG5 full-electric station wagon.

Tesla increased sales 189 percent, helped by brisk demand for the Model Y and Model 3.

Polestar rose 100 percent, boosted by sales of the Polestar 2 fastback, which was just being rolled out in Europe in November 2020.

Other brands that recorded gains last month were Bentley (+75 percent), Lada (+58 percent), Hyundai (+38 percent), Kia (+23 percent) and Dacia (+2.9 percent), according to JATO.

Models that increased sales sharply in November included the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV (+100 percent), BMW X3 midsize SUV (+51 percent) and the full-electric Nissan Leaf, which rose 23 percent to 3,550 sales.

Other EVs that had a strong November were the Dacia Spring (5,881), Volkswagen ID4 (4,756) and Ford Mustang Mach-E (2,742)

Based on EV sales figures from seven key European markets tabulated by analyst firm Jefferies, full-electric sales rose 24 percent in the month and 52 percent through 11 months to 106,700.
