Mercedes to end production of X-class pickup

The X class was intended to be a core pillar of a global growth strategy for Mercedes-Benz Vans.

FRANKFURT -- Mercedes-Benz is killing off its X-class pickup, a model that was supposed to expand the global reach of its commercial vehicles division and reduce the unit's dependence on the Sprinter large van.

The automaker did not break out the amount to be invested in each plant, but said June 10 the dollars will go to Orion Assembly in Michigan, Fairfax Assembly in Kansas and Spring Hill Manufacturing in Tennessee.
