Renault takes stake in Whylot to develop high-performance electric motors

The Renault Captur plug-in hybrid. Renault says axial-flux electric motors, which promise greatly improved energy density, can improve hybrid CO2 emissions by 2.5 grams per km.

PARIS -- Renault Group has taken a 21 percent stake in Whylot, a French company that is developing an axial-flux electric motor, a promising technology that promises more power density per kg of weight than current designs.
