Adelmann: Smart's Europe relaunch
Smart first made a splash as a Daimler subsidiary, making rear-engine minicars that could zip around Europe's narrow streets and even park perpendicular to the curb. Now, Smart is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, designed and engineered in Germany and China, and built in China for export.
The brand is returning to Europe with the #1, a small full-electric SUV with the latest connectivity and infortainment systems and a range of up to 440 km. It will be followed by the #3, a compact, coupe-styled SUV based on the same Geely SEA architecture as the #1. And more cars are in the works.
Hear about Smart's strategy to reconquer Europe from Smart Europe CEO Dirk Adelmann at this year's Automotive News Europe Congress.
