Alpine to display A390 show car in Paris ahead of 2025 launch

Alpine, Renault Group’s sports and racing brand, will reveal a concept version of its next model, a full-electric compact crossover, on Oct. 11 ahead of a public debut at the Paris auto show several days later.

The concept will be called the A390 Beta, and it will be a “forerunner of the brand’s future sport fastback” that will enter into production next year, Alpine said in a release Sept. 6.

The A390 Beta follows the A290, a small electric hot hatch based on the Renault 5. The A290 was also revealed first in “beta” concept form before its official unveiling; the production model and concept shared the same silhouette. 

Alpine released a silhouette image of the A390 Beta. The brand has referred to the model in the past as the "C-XO GT," or compact crossover GT. 

Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo is expanding the Alpine brand from the A110 sports coupe to a full lineup in the next four years, with future models set to include a new A110 in coupe and open-top configuration; the A390; the A310, a 2+2 based on the A110; and two larger EVs.

De Meo has said that Alpine is targeting the U.S. market toward the end of the decade, with the two larger EVs. No further details about the cars have emerged, including which platform they could use or where they would be produced.

In addition to his role as Alpine CEO, Philippe Krief was named last month to replace Gilles Le Borgne as head of technology at Renault Group. 

The A390 is expected to share underpinnings with the Renault Scenic, a compact electric SUV that entered production this year. It will be built in Alpine’s historic factory in Dieppe, northern France, the city where the brand was founded as a Renault tuner by Jean Redele in the mid-1950s.

Also at the Paris show, Alpine will present the Alpenglow Hy6, a new version of a hydrogen-powered sports racing prototype, as well as custom versions of the current A110, which has been in production since 2017. The show runs from Oct. 14-20.
