The first shipment of MG’s new full-electric hatchback, the MG4 Electric, set sail for Europe from Shanghai on Monday, according to SAIC, the Chinese owner of the British MG brand.
MG’s latest model, a rival to European battery-electric cars such as the Volkswagen ID3, will be sold in Europe at prices ranging from 31,990 euros-37,990 euros ($31,993-37,994), SAIC said.
It will go on sale in a wide range of European countries including Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.
The hatchback joins MG’s two existing electrified crossovers – the battery version of the ZS and the plug-in hybrid variant of the HS – while helping to increase the brand’s annual sales in Europe to a targeted record high of 100,000 in 2022, SAIC noted.
SAIC did not disclose additional details about the MG4 Electric to be sold in Europe.
The hatchback went on sale in China on Monday under a different model name – the Mulan, a legendary folklore heroine in ancient China.
According to SAIC, the Mulan is 4287 mm long, 1836 mm wide and 1516 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2705 mm.
The vehicle’s single-motor version has maximum power of 125kW, while its dual-motor variant has a maximum power of 330kW.
It is powered by phosphate iron lithium batteries supplied by Chinese battery giant CATL and is available in three range versions – 425 kilometers (264 miles), 460 km (286 miles) and 520 km (323 miles).
