Mercedes owes drivers compensation if illegal defeat devices caused damage, EU court rules

BERLIN -- Mercedes-Benz must pay compensation for unauthorized so-called defeat devices in diesel cars if the buyer suffers damages, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled.
