Volvo Cars has promoted its head of Europe, Bjorn Annwall, to chief financial officer.
Annwall, 45, who joined the automaker's executive management team in 2015, will succeed Carla De Geyseleer, 52, effective April 19.
De Geyseleer guided Volvo to a record performance in the second half of 2020.
De Geyseleer, who has served as CFO since 2019, will step down for personal reasons, the automaker said.
Annwall has been Volvo's head of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) since 2019, during which time he spearheaded the automaker's aggressive move into online sales. Volvo wants to more than double global online sales to 50 percent by 2025.
Prior to leading EMEA, Annwall led Volvo's commercial operations division and corporate strategy after starting as the automaker's head of marketing, sales and service.
Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a release that Annwall is “a modern leader" who has a "deep strategic understanding" of Volvo's future plans.
"This puts him in an excellent position to support the continued growth and financial performance of our business," Samuelsson added.
De Geyseleer is credited with successfully steering the company’s finances during the COVID-19 pandemic and guiding the automaker to a record performance in the second half of 2020.
Last year she also helped Volvo align its financial strategy with its overall sustainability ambitions, which include being carbon neutral by 2040.
Arek Nowinski, who is Volvo's managing director in Poland and head of products for Europe, will take over as head of EMEA.
Nowinski has been with Volvo for 17 years, 13 of which he has led the automaker's national sales operations in Poland.
In addition, he will become one of the company's senior vice presidents and report to Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo's board member for global commercial operations.
Nowinski, 44, has been with Volvo for 17 years, 13 of which he has led the automaker's national operations in Poland, where he and his team have tripled sales and quadrupled revenues.
Along with heading a national sales company as well as worked on core strategic projects at company headquarters on Gothenburg since November 2019.
Prior to joining Volvo in 2004, Nowinski worked as a consultant at KPMG Warsaw and at Grand Thornton in London.
He has master's degrees in finance and banking as well as in international finance and investment from the Warsaw (Poland) School of Economics and the University of Derby, England, respectively.
