MILAN -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ decision to shift its next-generation small cars to a platform from PSA Group following a planned merger of the automakers could jeopardize up to 10 billion euros of business for the Italian-American automaker’s European supply chain, industry experts estimate.
Suppliers most at risk are Italy-based partsmakers that only provide components to FCA, experts say, because they have neither the experience nor the economies of scale needed to challenge companies that have provided parts to PSA’s Common Modular Platform (CMP) for years.
