Ford Pro, Ford Motor's unit focusing on commercial customers, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Deutsche Post DHL Group to supply the German courier service with 2,000 electric vans and provide access to E-Telematics software and charging solutions.
At least a portion of the order will come in the form of Ford's E-Transit, the company's newest electric van released this year. Ford said Monday that some of the models had already been delivered to Deutsche Post and are being used in Bulgaria, Germany and Mexico.
Ford also delivered a number of specialty vehicles designed with a customized box to help inner-city deliveries in Germany.
In addition, the partnership has the potential for Deutsche Post to access new Ford Pro technology early, and to work with the automaker to develop future products, both companies said in a joint statement.
"Ford Pro and Deutsche Post DHL Group share the vision of greater sustainability and a commitment to electrified solutions, and this agreement is a major step towards millions of deliveries being completed by electrified vehicles around the world," Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Pro in Europe, said.
Ford Pro, which launched in 2021, aims to put more emphasis on the automaker's commercial customers. Ford CEO Jim Farley said last year the new standalone unit is "one of the most important strategic initiatives at Ford in many, many years."
