Michael Cole, the first non-Korean top boss at Hyundai Europe, has taken quick action since starting his new job July 1. Despite the many challenges created by the pandemic, Cole wants to boost the South Korean automaker's market share in the second half. To achieve this goal Hyundai will count on its fast-expanding lineup of electrified models, which includes the European-made battery-driven Kona small SUV. Cole outlined Hyundai Europe's plans to become a leader in low-emissions vehicles in an interview with Automotive News Europe Correspondent Andrea Malan.

How has the pandemic affected Hyundai Europe's plans for the next 12 to 18 months?
First of all, you have to remain incredibly flexible. We are very nimble and I think we have demonstrated that through these last six months. We are seeing a pretty good recovery in the market right now, I would almost say it's getting back to normal. But we have to be ready to change direction at any moment. We have seen that when the market is down as significantly as it was, everyone suffers, but we have been able to come through it in the best shape possible. We were proud of that. And, we hope that we won't have to face a second wave.
