Toyota was helped by the Yaris Cross, which had 11 placements in the top 10s in Europe after 10 months, up from seven appearances through nine months.

Toyota models appeared 59 times in the top 10 rankings of 30 European markets through 10 months.

That is up from 57 after nine months and 56 after eight months and 52 after six months.

Through October, the Toyota Corolla family and RAV4 SUV each had 12 appearances in the top 10s, the same as after nine months.

Meanwhile, the Yaris and Yaris Cross had a combined 22 placements (11 for each model) in the top 10s. For the Yaris, the total was down two compared with nine months while the Yaris Cross gained placements in four more countries compared with its results through three quarters, according to revised figures from market researcher Dataforce (some markets were late with their figures last month).

Volkswagen was second with 38 top 10s, down from 39 after nine months, followed by sister brand Skoda, with 32 through October, an increase of one.

Kia and Dacia pulled into a tie with 25 markets apiece through October. Through September Kia had a two-market lead over Dacia, 25 to 23. Through August, Kia led Dacia, 26 to 25.

The Toyota models, however, were beat by the Skoda Octavia again for the title as the car with the most placements in the top 10s, with 15 after 10 months, up from 14 after nine months. The Czech brand's compact line was No. 1 in Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland and its home market.

That Dacia Duster also beat the Toyota models with 12 placements in the top 10s.

Tied with the Yaris and Yaris Cross with 11 appearances in the top 10s were the VW T-Roc and and Kia Sportage SUVs.

The Dacia Sandero and Peugeot 208 both had nine top 10 finishes.

The 208 and Sandero were No. 1 and No. 2 in overall European sales after 10 months.
