VW T-Roc ends Peugeot 208's 3-month reign as Europe's top-seller

The Volkswagen T-Roc was Europe's No.1 seller for July, ending the Peugeot 208's three-month reign as Europe's best-seller.

The French small hatchback slipped to third in July after also being passed by the Dacia Sandero.

VW sold 19,130 units of the T-Roc small SUV in July, a gain of 15 percent from the same month last year.

Dacia sold 17,228 units of the Sandero, a decline of 16 percent compared with July 2021, according to figures from Dataforce.

Peugeot sold 16,423 208s in July, an increase of 47 percent.

The T-Roc is the fifth different model to finish the month as Europe's top-seller.

The other monthly winners so far in 2022 were the Dacia Sandero (January), VW Golf (February), Tesla Model 3 (March) and the 208 (April-June).

The 208 was Europe's top-selling model through seven months, according to figures from Dataforce.

The T-Roc and 208 were two of the five models in the top 10 for last month to record gains.

The others were the Dacia Duster, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Kia Sportage, which had a volume of 12,935 in July, an increase of 36 percent compared with the same month last year.

Looking at the rest of the top 50 for Europe for July, the other big winners were the Citroen C3 small car and Fiat 500 minicar (both +16 percent), Skoda Kodiaq midsize SUV (+22 percent) and the Hyundai i20 small hatchback (+26 percent).

After seven months the big winners included the Toyota Yaris Cross, Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Peugeot 308 and Renault Arkana.
