BARCELONA -- Volkswagen Group's Spanish unit, Seat, will halt all its output of 2,300 units a day starting Tuesday due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The production stop was because of the expected lack of components in the coming days and to further protect the health of its workers, Seat said in a news release on Monday.
So far Seat has not confirmed any positive cases among its employees, the company said.
The production halt will affect 10,500 workers, 3,500 more than announced on Friday when the company said it would halt the output at its main plant in Martorell near Barcelona.
Seat said it had presented to regional authorities a temporary layoff plan for all of its 14,800 workers for an unspecified period of time, but added that not all of them should be affected. The workers would keep 80 percent of their salary, among other benefits.
