The Mustang Mach-E Rally has special 19-inch wheels and extensive protection along the body's undercarriage to protect the lithium ion battery.

The off-road focused Mustang Mach-E Rally will produce at least 480 hp and 650 pound-feet of torque from a special two-motor layout, Ford said in a statement.

The crossover, revealed in July, will go on sale early next year.

Ford said it is equipped with a specially tuned version of the Mustang Mach-E GT's powertrain, special 19-inch wheels and extensive protection along the body's undercarriage to protect the lithium ion battery.

The Mach-E Rally will get an estimated 250 miles (402 km) per charge, roughly 60 miles less than the most-efficient Mach-E.

The vehicle is Ford's first electric offering in the popular off-road segment.

"Just a year ago, this was merely an idea, and what you see today is a testament to the passion and intense creativity of our Model e team," Donna Dickson, chief engineer, Mustang Mach-E, said in a statement.

"We have always explored new areas of performance, and the combination of a rally-tuned suspension, dual motor electric powertrain and wicked styling makes the Mustang Mach-E Rally a different kind of performance vehicle that will excite customers chasing their next adventure."

The vehicle will be the first from Ford to include a RallySport Drive Mode, which allows for bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners.

It will also include the latest version of BlueCruise 1.3, Ford's hands-free driver-assist system.

"Mustang Mach-E Rally puts Ford's decades of passion for rally championships around the world right in the hands of our customers," CEO Jim Farley said in a statement.

"It takes Mustang where it has not been before – to gravel and dirt roads. Inspired by true driving enthusiasts, a driving experience like never before for the pure joy of driving."

Officials said Ford will not limit production of the Mach-E Rally and will build to meet demand.

No pricing has been given for the Mach-E Rally in Europe, but the model is expected to cost about $65,000 in Ford's U.S. home market.

In Germany, the base Mach-E starts at 56,000 euros.
