Changan Automobile Co. named Klaus Zyciora, former head of global design at Volkswagen Group, a vice president with responsibility for global vehicle design.
The state-owned Chinese automaker announced the appointment Oct. 7.
Zyciora, 62, joined VW as a designer of vehicle interiors in 1989.
In 2020, he became VW Group’s global design chief after leading car design for the VW brand since 2007. Zyciora was replaced as VW Group design boss by Porsche's design boss Michael Mauer in December 2022.
Changan, based in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing, operates automotive design centers in Chongqing, China; Munich, Germany; Turin, Italy; and Yokohama, Japan.
The state-owned automaker produces sedans, crossovers, SUVs, multipurpose vehicles and minibuses under multiple brands.
It also operates passenger-vehicle joint ventures with Ford and Mazda.
In the first three quarters, Changan delivered 1.55 million vehicles globally, a 17-percent jump from a year earlier, with vehicle exports from China surging 25 percent to nearly 174,000.
