The bZ Sport Crossover Concept and the bZ FlexSpace Concept SUV are aimed initially at the Chinese market, but Toyota is evaluating whether to bring the production versions of the two models to Europe, officials said at the Shanghai auto show this week. Toyota currently sells the bZ4X midsize SUV in Europe.

The crossover will be produced with BYD and the SUV made with joint venture partner Guangzhou Automobile Group.
Both will go on sale in 2024 in China, Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakashima said at the show.

Newly installed CEO Koji Sato also said in a video message that the automaker aims to accelerate the development of electric cars tailored to the Chinese market.

Toyota will continue to promote research in hydrogen technology applications, looking to launch production of hydrogen-powered vehicles in China next year, Sato said.
