Lexus is jumping into the compact fray and has released a sketch of a concept that will be revealed at the Frankfurt auto show on September 15.
Toyota Motor Corp.'s luxury brand currently has no model to compete with popular entry-premium cars such as the BMW 1 series and Audi A3.
Lexus says its new entry-premium model will make a design and technology statement, though further details are not available.
It appears likely that the concept would get a hybrid powertrain. Lexus has patented the names CT 200h, CT 300h and CT 400h in North America; the company has reserved the h for hybrid models.
