STOCKHOLM -- Chinese electric carmaker Zeekr is weighing whether to offer in Europe a variant of its 001 premium midsize shooting brake that it claims is the world's quickest mass-produced full-electric vehicle.
The 001 FR (short of Future Road) accelerates from 0 to 100 kph (0 to 62 mph) in 2.07 seconds, Zeekr said, putting it marginally ahead of the Tesla Model S Plaid, which gets to that speed in 2.1 seconds.
The 001 FR is powered by four electric motors that deliver up to 1,265 hp and delivers a top speed of 280 kph.
The Model S Plaid has peak power of 1,020 hp and is faster than the 001 FR in terms of top speed, reaching 322 kph.
“We are considering whether to import the 001 FR to Europe to make it our halo model,” Alessandro Massimino, Zeekr Europe's head of product and connectivity, told Automotive News Europe. at a press event here.
He added that the Geely Holding subsidiary is evaluating the cost to homologate the car for Europe because it is substantially different from the standard 001. He said Zeekr is still discussing the car's potential price and volume for Europe.
Unveiled by April, the 001 FR's starting price has not been revealed by Zeekr, which has only said it would sell the supercar for more than 1 million yuan (more than 130,000 euros). In Germany a standard Zeekr 001 sells for 59,490 euros. In Germany the Tesla Model S Plaid starts at 109,900 euros, which is 25,000 euros more than the standard model.
China deliveries of the 001 FR will begin in late October. Production is limited to 99 units a month, Zeekr said.
The 001 FR is Zeekr's first model with an 800-volt electric architecture, which permits faster charging. The company's other models, including the standard 001, 009 large van and X compact SUV use a 400-volt electric architecture, which is more common for EVs.
The 001 FR is powered by Zeekr's in-house developed, high-performance permanent magnet synchronous motors. The car is equipped with torque vectoring control technology that monitors the speed of the four motors in real time and controls the torque output of each wheel independently, Zeekr said.
The 001 FR features a revised exterior design and a huge rear spoiler to create downforce. It has a 100-kilowatt hour Qilin battery pack from China's CATL. The battery is used on other Zeekr models.
Massimino said that Zeekr also is mulling whether to add the 001's ultra-long-range variant to its European portfolio. That model has a 140-kWh battery pack with a range of 1,032 km (641 miles), based on Chinese test results. Zeekr's longest range version of the 001 offered in Europe, with the 100-kWh battery pack, takes the car up to 620 km.
