Volvo r&d chief defends steps to reach safety goal

To reach its Vision 2020 goal of making sure that no one is killed or seriously injured in any new Volvo starting next year, the automaker will limit the top speed in its new models to 180 kph (112 mph). Volvo also will install cameras and sensors in next-generation vehicles to determine whether a driver is intoxicated or distracted. The steps Volvo will take to achieve its ambitious safety target have resulted in lots of questions, which r&d chief Henrik Green addressed in an interview with Automotive News Europe Managing Editor Douglas A. Bolduc.
