BERLIN -- Volkswagen is cutting production at German factories after heavy flooding in Slovenia halted output at a supplier of key engine components.

VW is reducing work hours for employees at its home plant in Wolfsburg, which builds the Golf and Tiguan. Short-time work measures will be in place from Sept. 11-29, a VW spokesperson said.

The automaker is also cutting production at its commercial vehicles factory in Hanover.

Production of the  T6.1 van, which accounts for the bulk of production at the plant, will be suspended in mid-September while the T7 Multivan will only be built as a plug-in hybrid. The ID Buzz electric van will not be affected.

In addition, there would be isolated shift cancellations at VW's plant in Emden in northern Germany.

Flooding in Slovenia has stopped production at KLS Ljubno, a gear rings manufacturer that supplies more than 80 percent of Europe's automotive market.

VW is also pausing production at its factory in Portugal between Sept. 11 and Nov. 12. The factory builds theT-Roc small crossover.

Kerrigan Advisors Releases First Quarter 2025 Blue Sky Report

While the dealership buy/sell market commenced at a slower pace in the first quarter, and despite some uncertainty surrounding tariffs, strong profit and sales expectations are expected in 2025, fueling another highly active year for transactions. The report also features Kerrigan Advisors’ signature Blue Sky Multiples by franchise.

KLS Ljubno hopes to be able to restart some production in October.

Flooding inundated the factory floors with water and mud, causing damage estimated at 100 million euros.
