The advent of new technologies such as electrification and connectivity has led automakers to rethink how they sell the cars they build. Some that sell in Europe are moving toward more direct sales through the "agency model," saying that it will give them a closer relationship to their customers, and eliminate incentives and haggling. In return, dealers will receive a guaranteed fee for every car they deliver, and save money in other ways.
Will the agency model, or the traditional dealership model prevail? That is yet to be determined, with automakers, independent distributors and dealers lining up on different sides of the argument. On expert with his ear to the ground on this issue is Steve Young, managing director of ICDP, a research and consulting company that specializes in all aspects of distribution.
Hear from an expert on this potentialy game-changing sales model at this year's Automotive News Europe Congress in Prague on July 13-14.
