SUNDERLAND, England -- Nissan will invest up to 1.12 billion pounds ($1.4 billion) at its plant here for production of battery-electric replacements of the Qashqai compact SUV and the Juke small SUV.
The automaker will also add a third battery plant with a further investment of 1 billion pounds.
The two new EVs will be built alongside the next-generation Leaf, which will become a crossover, Nissan said on Friday in a statement. The Leaf replacement was announced for the plant in 2021.
The Sunderland factory currently builds combustion engine and hybrid versions of the Qashqai and Juke, as well as the Leaf full-electric compact car.
