SHANGHAI -- MG will launch its new Cyberster electric sports car in Europe next summer, the Chinese-owned brand has said.

MG revealed pictures of the roadster on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai auto show.

The Cyberster will have upward opening ‘scissor’ doors and a distinctive steeply sloping rear with a ‘Kammback’ aerodynamic design.

The Cyberster is “respectful of the brand’s illustrious past while also absolutely modern and forward-facing like the MG of today,” Carl Gotham, advanced design director of the MG’s design studio in London, said in a statement. “It opens a bold and compelling new chapter for MG,” he said.

The Cyberster “will be a game changer in terms of perception of the brand,” MG UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis told Automotive News Europe last year.

The roadster’s sales start in 2024 marks MG’s 100th anniversary of its founding.

MG said the Cyberster will have a “powerful” battery-electric powertrain and contemporary cabin with “cutting-edge driver technology.” No details were released about its drivetrain or performance.

Media reports quoting information from China’s Ministry of Information and Technology (MIIT) say the car will 4540mm long. The entry version will have 250kW from a rear-mounted electric motor while the top spec version will make 400kW with the addition of a second motor powering the front axle, according to the MIIT specifications.
