Harman's already broad relationship with the Volkswagen Group has been expanded to include the supplier's Ignite app store.

VW Group's software arm, Cariad, announced the deal with Harman at this year's Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain.

Starting this summer, the cloud-based app store will be available in most Audi cars (but not the A1 small premium car, A3 compact premium model or Q4 E-tron premium midsize SUV). The solution will be rolled out to other VW Group brands later, the company said.

The store includes a mix of third-party and VW apps designed especially for use in the automotive environment. Initially the lineup will include Spotify, TikTok, Yelp, Webex by Cisco, The Weather Channel and the smart home platform Home Assistant.

VW Group brands, meanwhile, will integrate their own apps, such as online traffic light information or navigation services.

Cariad CEO Dirk Hilgenberg said the store "allows a first glimpse of the completely new One.Infotainment system of our future premium software."
