Seres, the EV division of Chinese mobile phone giant Huawei, showed three models for the European market act the IAA. The Seres 3 is a compact SUV (shown); the Seres 5, a coupe-style midsize SUV; and the Seres 7, a seven-seat crossover. Sales have already started for the Seres 3 and 5 in several countries, including the Netherlands.

Chinese EV startup Xpeng announced that it will enter the German and French markets starting in 2024 with the G9 and G6 SUVs and P7 large sedan. Xpeng Vice Chairman and President Brian Gu is seen in the middle. Xpeng's visibility soared after VW recently announced it would work with the company to jointly develop electric models in the Chinese market.

BYD's Denza brand showcased the D9, China's best-selling minivan. It will “hopefully� be coming to Europe, said BYD's European head. Denza was created as part of a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz in 2010 and is now part of BYD's core stable of brands in China. Mercedes owns 10 percent of the brand after reducing its stake in 2021.

Mobileye, Zeekr team up for tech advancement

Chinese EV maker Zeekr has extended its collaboration with Mobileye, the Israeli technology supplier said on the sidelines of the IAA Mobility show in Munich. Zeekr, which is a Geely Holding subsidiary, is providing 110,000 owners of the 001 with Mobileye's SuperVision driver assistance system via over the air updates. That means drivers can take their hands off the wheel, but they must be able to take over the driving task within seconds (hands off, eyes on).

The system will first be available in Shanghai and Hangzhou, with multiple cities being added over the next few months, Mobileye said in a release. The Zeekr 009 van is expected to receive a similar OTA update later this year. Zeekr' 001 sedan and Zeekr X SUV will arrive in Sweden and the Netherlands starting in the fourth quarter.

Data collected from Cupra's virtual fans was used to create the design of the DarkRebel show car, which on Sunday was shown in its physical form for the first time. Will the DarkRebel become a production car? “If we can dream it, we can make it,� said Wayne Griffiths, who is CEO of Cupra and its sister brand Seat. However, it is more likely that some elements of the DarkRebel will be used on future Cupras.
