PARIS -- Dacia has promoted David Durand to lead design at the Renault Group low-cost brand, succeeding Miles Nuernberger, who is leaving the company after less than a year in the position.
Durand is currently head of exterior design at Dacia, where his recent projects included the new generation Sandero and Sandero Stepway small cars and the Jogger compact crossover. He also contributed to the design of the Bigster compact SUV concept.
He is the third design director named at Dacia in less than two years. Nuernberger joined the brand in June 2021 from Aston Martin following the departure of Alejandro Mesoneros-Romanos, who left after six months to become head of design at Stellantis’ Alfa Romeo brand.
Renault Group, in announcing Durand’s promotion Wednesday, said Nuernberger would be leaving for "personal reasons and to pursue other professional projects."
Durand, 49, is a graduate of the Strate school of design in Paris. He joined Renault Group in 1997, where he designed the Koleos concept in 1999. Durand then worked at Renault design centers in Barcelona, Spain; Seoul, South Korea; and Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2011, he was named design director of the Global Access range for low-cost international cars. He became head of exterior design at Dacia in 2020.
Durand will join Dacia’s management committee and will report to Dacia/Lada business unit chief Denis Le Vot and Renault Group executive vice president for design Laurens van den Acker.
