New-car dealerships in China have a long way to go to shrug off the severe impact of the lingering coronavirus epidemic, with average revenue from sales operations still less than half of normal levels.
While 93.5 percent of franchised dealerships had reopened by Friday, the average daily revenue generated by new-vehicle sales was only 49.8 percent of normal levels, according to a survey of the China Automobile Dealers Association.
Showroom traffic and demand for parts and service also remained low, according to the survey of 8,509 franchised stores across China.
On Friday, showroom traffic at dealerships surveyed was 57.2 percent of normal levels, while average revenue generated by parts and service rose to 56.8 percent of normal levels.
