The Toyota C-HR was one of the brand's 5 models with double-digit placements in the top 10 sales rankings in the 30 markets tracked by Automotive News Europe and Dataforce.

Toyota models appeared 54 times in the top 10 rankings of 30 European markets through 12 months.

That was because it had five models with double-digit placements in the top 10 sales rankings in the 30 markets tracked by Automotive News Europe and Dataforce.

The Japanese automaker was consistently in the 50s much of the year, recording 57 appearance after nine months and 52 after six months, according Dataforce.

Volkswagen was second with 37 top 10s followed by sister brand Skoda with 31 placements.

Kia and Dacia were locked in a tight battle all year that the Korean brand ended up winning 27 to 26 after 12 months.

Peugeot had 19 appearances in top 10s while Hyundai had 17, according to Dataforce's figures.

When it comes to the vehicles with the most placements, the Skoda Octavia led the way with 14, followed by the Dacia Duster (13) and Kia Sportage (12).

Two Toyota models tied with 11 placements -- the Corolla and Yaris -- while six models tied with 10 placements apiece.

It's also worth noting that the Tesla Model Y had as many top 10 appearances last year at the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (7) and that the full-electric VW ID4 had as many appearance as the VW Golf, Volvo XC40 and Peugeot 2008 at five.
