Top 10 sellers by market, 9 months: Toyota extends lead

VW was second, Skoda third and Kia increased its lead over Dacia.

    Toyota was helped by the Corolla, which had 12 placements in the top 10s in Europe after nine months.

    Toyota models appeared 57 times in the top 10 rankings of 30 European markets through nine months. That is up from 56 after eight months, 54 after seven months and 52 after six months.

    Through September, the Toyota Yaris had 13 appearances in top 10s, the same as after eight months, and the Yaris Cross had seven through nine months, down from nine after eight months, according to figures from market researcher Dataforce.

    Volkswagen was second with 39 top 10s, down from 40 after eight months, followed by sister brand Skoda, with 31 through September, up from 28 placements after eight months.

    Kia extended its lead over Dacia, 26 to 24, after nine months. Through August, Kia led Dacia 26 to 25.

    Peugeot had 20 appearance in the top 10s, while Hyundai had 17.

    Toyota was also helped by the Corolla compact family's and the RAV4 compact SUV's 12 appearances each in the top 10s.

    Combined, the Yaris/Yaris Cross, Corolla and RAV4 appeared 44 times in the top 10s through September.

    While the Toyota models did well it was the Skoda Octavia that reminded the model with the most placements in the top 10s with 14. The Czech brand's compact line was No. 1 in Croatia, Slovenia and its home market.

    Tied with the Yaris with 13 appearances in the top 10s was the VW T-Roc. The small SUV was also Europe's No. 1-seller in July and August.

    The Kia Sportage and Dacia Sandero both had 11 top 10 finishes.

    The Peugeot 208 had 10 appearances in the top 10s. The 208 was No. 1 in Denmark, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
