Software glitches have been causing automakers a lot of headaches, especially when launching new electric vehicles aimed at the mass market.
In the last few months software issues have forced a recall of the Polestar 2 and caused Volkswagen to launch the ID3 without some key functions.
Volvo Cars’s chief digital officer, Odgard Andersson, had an interesting answer when asked what automakers should do to prevent similar glitches and, more importantly, how they will make sure a vehicle's software is robust enough to eventually take full control of driving.
“It's quite a different thing to solve a number of discrete functions in hundreds of computers versus building advanced software algorithms that grow over time,” said Andersson, who next month takes over as CEO at Volvo’s stand-alone autonomous drive software development company, Zenseact.
